Utilizing objects or elements at your photo session as a "frame" can help focus attention on your subject. Whether it's a doorway, a window, two trees, table legs, flowers/plants or railings; putting your subject neatly between or underneath these elements can help focus the viewer's eyes on your subject. Frames can help eliminate distractions by blocking them and keep your viewer's eye from straying away from your photo's main subject; in my case a dog!
Below I showcase a few everyday objects that can be used for framing. You can find frames everywhere. Whether you are in a natural or urban location, there are plenty of objects that can be used for this purpose.
Let's start with some natural frames such as flowers/plants or rocks. These objects can be found everywhere you look. The first one is a flowering apple tree. The dog is being held up by their owner to be able to reach the flowers; how cute it that! The second one is two rocks that I was easily able to put the dog between and the third one is just a set of plants lining a trail. So easy to find natural frames.
These next set of frames are man-made frames. These include doorways, railings and even a drainage culvert. Finding frames with pops of color like a door adds an additional element that draws your viewer in.
Next time you are out and about, be sure to look for these framing elements to give your photography some variety. You can also bring along objects to be used as a frame, such as an umbrella, mirror or backdrop.
Of course, always be cognizant that your doggy subject may or may not be willing to be in the frame. Small spaces can sometimes make a dog uncomfortable, as can umbrellas. Use your frames with care.
This blog post is part of a blog circle. We are all writing about our interpretation of "frames".

Darlene - Great examples of "framed" images, Sandra! I love the variety. I love them all, but that little puppy "sit" on the bridge just makes me smile! So sweet!
