Fur and Flowers: Lavender Edition
Somewhat hidden in the small town of Warner NH is a special place called Pumpkin Blossom Farm. Here you'll find a farmhouse with a field of lavender blossoms. As you step out of your car, your senses are filled with the smell of lavender and the beauty of these plants. The farm is run by Mike and Missy Biagiotti and during the month of July, you can visit and see the plants in full glorious purple bloom. In addition to being able to pick your own blooms, the farm offers lavender products like lavender ice cream as well as various events like yoga, and meditation.
For me, the plants are an amazing backdrop to be able to photograph my furry clients and their fur-parents. In the early hours of the morning (before 7am) when the light is best and the heat has not yet started to heat up the day, I met with several clients wanting to get a photo of their pup amid the purple lavender. This early in the morning was also a quiet time before customers arrive. The only other thing stirring at that hour were the bees happily dancing among the plants as well as the chickens getting ready for their day.
Below are some of the photos I produced at this amazing location. While it may look like the dogs were laying among the plants, they were between plants. By me getting low and shooting from a low angle, it appears that they are sitting in them. The dogs were also on leash at all times to protect not only the plants but the dogs themselves. Leashes were removed after the fact during editing.
Luckily mother nature cooperated for every one of my sessions. I only saw a few raindrops on one morning, but not enough to slow us down.
